They sit on the same shelf. They both have a tank of water, a little mist coming out the top, and a soft LED glow. People confuse them constantly, and it's not your fault — they look nearly identical. But they do fundamentally different things, and buying the wrong one for what you actually need is a genuinely frustrating mistake.

What a Humidifier Does
A humidifier's job is to raise the relative humidity (RH) of your room. That's it. It adds moisture to the air. A good bedroom humidifier runs all night and keeps your room at 40–50% RH, which is the range where you stop waking up with a dry throat, your skin stops feeling tight in the morning, and your sinuses don't rebel.
Tank size matters. A 3L humidifier can run 16–24 hours. A 100ml diffuser will need refilling before midnight.
What a Diffuser Does
A diffuser's job is to disperse essential oils into the air. It does add a tiny amount of moisture as a byproduct, but a typical 100–300ml diffuser does not meaningfully raise your room's humidity. If you buy a diffuser expecting your dry throat to go away, you'll be disappointed.
Diffusers are about scent and aromatherapy. Eucalyptus for congestion, lavender for winding down, peppermint for focus. That's their job, and they do it beautifully.
Can You Use Essential Oils in a Humidifier?
Some humidifiers — including several in our range — have a dedicated essential oil tray that keeps oils separate from the water tank. This is the only safe way to combine both functions. Putting essential oils directly into the water tank of a standard humidifier can corrode the ultrasonic plate and void your warranty.
